Aleksandra Petryka MRCVS, CertAVP

Aleks graduated in 2010 and almost immediately developed passion for emergency medicine, working in emergency and critical care departments in multiple hospitals across the UK and Ireland. During this time she developed a particular interest in POCUS ultrasonography and radiography techniques. In 2019 she started a post graduate qualification in small animal cardiology and it has since become her passion.
We are thrilled to have Aleks join CelticSMR to share her knowledge and expertise. Throughout her courses she puts emphasis on practical, repeatable skills that you can utilise immediately in your workplace setting with equipment available on site.

Frequently asked questions

Do we use our own practice ultrasound machine?

Yes.

It is important to become familiar with machine settings, and this is the benefit of receiving in-house training - you will learn to become familiar with your own machine. If you would prefer to use a higher spec machine or it is not practicable to use your own, we will provide one.

Do we need to provide our own patients?

Yes.

The ideal patient is healthy, lean, well-behaved and can be clipped – normally pets belonging to practice members. We advise against using unwell, painful or fractious patients due to the time involved, and very overweight or large patients as these can be frustrating to learn on. Ideally 3 or 4 patients should be available to rotate between.

How many members of the team can you train?

3

Within a single session we recommend having no more than 3 to maximise hands on experience. We can always come back if you have more people to train, staff turnover or wish to learn more. We hope to build a relationship with you and your team and guide you to becoming great first opinion sonographers.
