Starting up a veterinary practice?

Veterinary start up packages

Are you starting up a veterinary practice? Then look no further than CelticSMR for all of your imaging needs. Don’t believe us?

“It was a pleasure to work with Celtic SMR throughout our start-up journey of an independent small animal clinic. From first contact, the team were extremely helpful and able to provide advice and assistance whenever required.  They were patient with my (many!) questions and gave me lots of further information, enabling us to compare various companies’ options and to reach a final shortlist of systems that we were keen to compare.

Despite delays with the build at our end, the supply and installation of the equipment went really smoothly and we had a really helpful initial briefing from the installer, followed by a more thorough on-site training session a few days later.

We feel confident (and competent!) using the equipment and are extremely pleased with the results that we are getting.

I would highly recommend Celtic SMR for supply of imaging equipment and we will definitely reach out to them again in future.

We would also be delighted to welcome anyone considering the same system to come and visit us in person in order to have a play with the system ‘in real life’ and likewise to chat with anyone who would like to talk to us about our experience / our own system.”

When it comes to choosing what you need, we are here to help

Digital X-Ray

The main choice when selecting a digital x-ray system is between DR or CR. DR means direct radiography, whereby you expose directly onto a DR panel and the image processes immediately onto a monitor or laptop, without you needing to do anything else. There is no large bulky processor with DR – just the panel, PC and monitor. CR involves exposing onto a cassette which you then physically place into the CR processor, for processing. CelticSMR offers DR, CR and refurbished CR systems to suit all practice requirements and budgets.

  • In the past 2 years, around 90% of our digital x-ray installations have been DR - visit for more information
  • CR systems are still a cost-effective way of having digital x-ray facility in practice - visit for more information
  • Refurbished CR systems are available to keeps costs as low as possible

X-Ray generator and Table

Small animal practitioners have a choice. Many opt for a portable x-ray generator which mounts either onto an x-ray table, stand or wall arm. Depending on available space and budget in your x-ray room, we recommend a floating top table with a cassette tray. If space is an issue, you can use a dual-purpose consulting style table with lead rubber matting on top and mount the generator on a stand or wall arm.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound scanners can be anything from entry level portable systems right up to referral standard cart-based systems. There are a lot of options in between, but most first opinion small animal clinics look for something that is easy to use, offers doppler functionality to track blood flow and that can be pre-set to make most typical scans quick and straight forward.The main considerations when selecting an ultrasound machine are;

  • Does this machine do what I am comfortable with now, while giving me the chance to develop and expand our offering over the coming years?
  • Are a range of probes available so that I can scan everything from tendons to abdomens or small cats to big dogs, including cardiac scans?
  • Will my supplier support me in setting the equipment up and ensuring the whole team are comfortable using it?

Celtic SMR will always offer to demonstrate a scanner prior to any purchase, then come in to hand it over, set up the probes and pre-sets as you want them and ensure the team are happy using it.

Our most popular ultrasound scanners:

Sonoscape E2V - colour doppler portable system. Ideal for small animal practices short on space or for branch practices, the E2V provides outstanding images, easy-to-use control system, customisable pre-sets and a comprehensive range of probes.
