Advantages of “Point Mode” (Focused Treatment) with MLS Laser
As well as being the only therapeutic laser on the market which delivers two different wavelengths in a synchronised locked system, MLSÒ offers the option of using ‘point mode’.
With many other higher power class 4 therapeutic laser systems, the risk of thermal damage is reduced by utilising a continuous movement of the handpiece so as not to deliver too much energy into any particular area of tissue. Treatment can be applied safely and effectively but is a much more diffuse and less focused method of delivery.
Often when clinicians are assessing patients they are aware of focal areas of pain, trigger points or smaller areas of anatomy which require treatment. A laser which requires continuous movement of the handpiece makes it harder to treat these smaller focal areas. With MLSÒ laser’s point mode however, we can apply laser treatment without the need for continuous movement.
MLS lasers utilise 808nm and 905nm wavelengths in their multiwave locked system. The 905nm wavelength is delivered with a peak power of 25W and is nanopulsed. The nanopulse technology means that in the ‘spaces’ between the pulses, any thermal energy which might build up to harmful levels is instead allowed to disperse more evenly throughout the tissues and to dissipate meaning there is no risk of thermal damage, even when holding the laser still.
The benefits of this include:
- The ability to safely focus treatment over trigger points
- The ability to safely focus treatment for small joints
- The ability to safely focus treatment over small ligaments
- The ability to safely treat focal areas of pain
These benefits are particularly advantageous when treating smaller such as the joints and ligaments in feet and hands, when treating tendinopathies with clear focal areas of pain and when treating muscle bellies with radial trigger or myofascial points ensuring maximum treatment efficacy for your patients.
